This 1st Thursday, Art & Soul welcomes The Strangers Project—a global archive of handwritten stories connecting strangers through reflection, empathy, and voice. Presented in partnership with Friends of State Street’s Space to Share initiative, this pilot explores shared-space models that expand audiences and cultivate vibrant, collaborative cultural destinations.
A Bloomberg-funded asphalt art installation is transforming the State and Carrillo intersection into a vibrant, community-driven public space. Inspired by Zapotec weaving traditions, the design enhances pedestrian safety, celebrates local culture and the Farmers Market, and reimagines the downtown streetscape through a stunning public art installation.
Get ready to move with SB1200, one of Santa Barbara’s premier hip-hop ensembles. Known for their hypnotic grooves and a setlist of soulful favorites that invite the whole crowd to sing along, SB1200 delivers a high-energy, family-friendly performance. Join us in the heart of the 800 block for a night of rhythm and community spirit.

In Echoes of Earth and Sky, Jane Chapman translates the luminous Santa Barbara terrain into layered, abstract compositions that reflect our interconnected relationships. Through oil, mixed media, and collage, she builds textured landscapes that echo the Channel Island horizon, coastal light, and the rising forms of the Santa Ynez Mountains.
Fuzion Glass Gallery showcases exceptional works of hand blown borosilicate glass. Created using age-old and newly innovated lampworking techniques, we feature over 100 different independent artists from across the USA and even some international. Setting a new modern standard for elevated functional glassware and much more.

Sam Avelar’s recent work explores relationships between memory and impressions while formally shifting between degrees of reality and softened representation. Informed by her upbringing, Sam’s work examines the dynamics around the natural and domestic world by observing what these spaces feel like and how they impact us.
