Beautification
The physical environment of our downtown is a reflection of our community’s pride and economic vitality.
Through the Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association's (DSBIA) beautification initiatives, we transform public spaces into inviting, vibrant destinations. By blending artistic expression with thoughtful urban design, we ensure that every block, paseo, and storefront contributes to a welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. Our programs focus on color, light, and creative storytelling to celebrate the unique character of our district.
We believe that every storefront is an opportunity for inspiration. In collaboration with the County Office of Arts and Culture and the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, this program transforms vacant windows into rotating street-level galleries. By featuring the work of local artists, we eliminate the "blank canvas" of empty spaces, increasing street-level appeal and helping to position these properties for future tenants.
The State Street Flag Program is administered by the Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association (DSBIA) and transforms the State Street corridor — from Cabrillo Boulevard to Micheltorena Street — into a dynamic, open-air gallery of nonprofit pride.
Our historic paseos are the hidden gems of downtown, offering charming shortcuts and intimate spaces for discovery. To make these corridors more welcoming and vibrant after sunset, we are implementing a series of lighting enhancements designed to improve both ambiance and visibility.
