Something sweet — and delicious — is coming to the 400 block of State Street in Santa Barbara.

Onus Donuts is set to open early next week at 413 State St. It's the latest business venture for Juan Jimenez, whose entrepreneurial family is behind the Cajun Kitchen restaurants.

"We want to open an old fashioned donut shop that gives people value," Jimenez told Noozhawk. "We want to create a cool environment where people just come in, have coffee and donuts, it's simple."

The donut shop is intended to remind people of a mid-century neighborhood coffee shops, but with a modern twist.

In addition to standard donuts, the restaurant will offer special creations, including Nutella-filled, maple topped with bacon, and Fruity Pebbles. Onus will also serve vegan donuts and coffee from Dune Coffee Roasters.

Hot tea, cold brew coffee, milk, juices, and soft drinks including lemonade, iced tea, and sodas will also be available.

The restaurant features a diner-style counter with plush stools, and some table seating. Free Wi-Fi will be offered at the shop, which will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and to midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Jimenez said he's looking forward to helping to revitalize the area.

"We want people to enjoy going to this block again," Jimenez said. "This block doesn't have a good reputation, and we want to be a part of bringing it back, just like the other businesses that are new here and have been doing that. Downtown has kind of a long way to go.

"We hope we are part of the comeback."
