Library Closing for Construction on June 23

Release Date: June 19,2015

The Santa Barbara Central Library will be closed all day on Tuesday, June 23, in preparation for renovations on the main level. Furnishings will be moved out of the southern half of the main level, and a temporary barrier will be installed to separate the work area from the rest of the floor. The Central Library is located at 40 E. Anapamu St. in Santa Barbara.

Renovation will begin in late June and continue through the summer. During the project, all internet computers will be available and all services will continue at the library. Entry into the open section of the main floor during this time will be through the emergency exit at the left side of the main Anapamu St. entrance. The lobby, stairways, restrooms and the Faulkner Galleries will remain open. The elevator will be accessible, except during one week when it will be under renovation.

The project will reconfigure the space vacated by the current children’s collection, which is set to move into the new Children’s Library on the lower level this summer. Improvements to the main floor will include a new computer teaching lab, a designated eating area, more study space, better lighting, and an enlarged Adult Literacy center. There will also be some new furnishings and more display space for new books and featured materials.
