MORE Theater/SB’s home office in the famous Balboa Building will be the site for a special 3-day reading of a new play, Queen of Cups, written by poet and queer studies scholar, Judy Grahn. The epic poem-play begins with the Queen of Cups calling for a Conference of Changes. Among attendees are the planet Earth Ma, the goddess of love Helena, Mary Magdalen, Whirling, the half-Bird Boatsman Oracle, the Scientist Simon, the headless ghost of John, Boot the Dog, and a chorus of Microbes. The play draws on Mesopotamian mythologies, Gnostic gospels, the Tarot, American classics, and from the fields of science, medicine and gender studies. Event includes afternoon tea and discussion with playwright following each reading.
