The Santa Barbara Symphony is teaming up with Pianos on State, organized by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, for #RachOnState—a playful community-wide piano and social media challenge inspired by Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 2.
The challenge kicks off October 1 at 5 PM at Piano #4, Anapamu & State Street, where Santa Barbara Symphony Maestro Nir Kabaretti will show Santa Barbara how he “Rachs.”
Want to join in? Find a Pianos on State piano (https://www.pianosonstate.com/map ) and make Rachmaninoff your own. Play a favorite Rachmaninoff passage—or put your own spin on one—then record your performance and share it on Instagram @sbsymphony or Facebook with @SantaBarbaraSymphony and #RachOnState.
Classical, jazzy, dramatic, funny, beginner or virtuoso—there’s no wrong way to Rach.
And there’s even more reason to play: five lucky participants will each win a complimentary pair of tickets to the Santa Barbara Symphony’s Season Opening concert, Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto, where you will hear GRAMMY Award-winning pianist Michelle Cann show Santa Barbara how she Rachs!
On October 24 & 25 at The Granada Theatre, Cann joins Music & Artistic Director Nir Kabaretti and the Santa Barbara Symphony for Rachmaninoff’s soaring Piano Concerto No. 2. The program also features Shostakovich’s powerful Symphony No. 5, for an Opening Weekend filled with longing, triumph, courage, and unforgettable music.
First, hear how Santa Barbara Rachs on State. Then hear Michelle Cann and The Symphony bring Rachmaninoff to life at The Granada.
