On Saturday, August 29, from 11a.m.–4p.m., we’re inviting all of Santa Barbara to join us for a giant neighborhood block party in the heart of Presidio Neighborhood: INDY40 Fest.
For forty years, the Independent has informed, entertained, connected, and celebrated this community. Now, it’s time to celebrate together.
INDY40 Fest will transform the historic El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park into a lively gathering place filled with community partners, interactive experiences, photobooth, and plenty of opportunities to mingle in our reunion lounge.
Live Music throughout the day curated by Rock-n-Roll 805 on the Vista del Monte Community Stage with performances from Bradberri, East Valley Road, and The Bad Neighbors.
Inside the Presidio Chapel, we will host three journalism panels presented by Bluedot Institute and will feature Editor in Chief Marianne Partridge and Executive Editor Nick Welsh, and moderated by Matt Kettmann. A panel featuring long-term Independent faces; Joe Woodard, Tanya Spears Guiliacci, Camille Cimini Fruin, and Martha Sadler, and moderated by Senior Editor Tyler Hayden. The final panel will discuss the future of newsgathering with current staff and moderated by News Reporter Ryan P. Cruz.
