domecíl will welcome photographer Aaron Svenby for an intimate evening talk celebrating his photographic journey along the California coast and the making of his book, California’s Coast: Take A Second Look. Over the course of more than a decade, Svenby traveled the length of California’s coastline, documenting its beaches, cliffs, forests,
piers, and changing landscapes through panoramic photography. The result is a 400-page collection that offers an expansive look at the state’s more than 1,100 miles of coastline, presented through Svenby’s distinctive photographic perspective. During the evening, Svenby will share stories from the making of the book, including his approach to photographing the coast, the patience and process behind working with panoramic film cameras, and the experience of spending years exploring and documenting California’s diverse coastal landscape. Much of the book was photographed using medium-format panoramic film cameras, a deliberate process that allowed Svenby to slow down and spend time observing each location before capturing an image. The conversation will offer guests an opportunity to see the California coast through the eyes of a photographer who has spent years seeking out its quieter moments, familiar landmarks, changing light, and unexpected perspectives. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore California’s Coast: Take A Second Look and Svenby’s photographic work.
