2025 Annual Report: A Year of Impact and Transformation Downtown
The past year marked a defining chapter for our neighborhood. At the Downtown Santa Barbara Improvement Association (DSBIA), we moved quickly from building a new organizational foundation to delivering measurable improvements that you can see and feel every time you walk down State Street.
With the release of our 2025 Annual Report, we’re taking a moment to look back at the progress we’ve made since launching our district-wide services and a look forward at what’s next for the heart of our city.
Visible Improvements: By the Numbers
Since launching our enhanced maintenance services in September 2025, our teams have been working around the clock to keep the district clean and welcoming. In just the final four months of the year, we achieved:
- 103,768 pounds of trash removed.
- 5,135 trash bags filled and hauled away.
- 382 blocks professionally pressure washed.
- 9.1 minutes average response time for our new service hotline.
These aren't just statistics—they represent a cleaner, more inviting environment for our local businesses, residents, and visitors.
New Services Launched in 2025
Beyond cleaning the sidewalks, we introduced several key programs to enhance the downtown experience:
- Daily Janitorial & Landscape Management: Consistent, district-wide care for our public spaces.
- Paseo Lighting: Enhancing the charm and safety of our historic walkways.
- Window Beautification Program: In partnership with the County Office of Arts and Culture, we’ve begun transforming vacant storefronts into vibrant art installations, helping to position these spaces for new tenants.
- Maintenance Hotline: We launched our real-time request line. You can now text a photo and description of any service need to 805-242-1311 between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM daily.
The Road Ahead: Our Strategic Priorities
While we are proud of our early success, we are just getting started. Our recently adopted Strategic Plan outlines several bold initiatives to strengthen our community’s economic resilience:
- Enhanced Paseos: Look for more overhead string lights and wrapped tree lighting in spots like Storke Placita, Dollar Tree Plaza, and the walkways near Dargan's and Lot 3.
- Housing Advocacy: We are actively supporting policies that increase downtown housing density, making it easier for people to live and work right here in the district.
- Safety & Security: We are expanding our security camera grant program and security patrols to support local businesses and deter nuisance activities.
- Marketing & Activations: We are preparing to launch a fresh, user-friendly website to showcase our local brand and will continue expanding our event programming to drive foot traffic and local pride.
"We are committed to continuing to invest in and maintain a downtown we can all be proud of." — Robin Elander, Executive Director
