Downtown SB Announces Winners of 2016 Holiday Window Décor Contest

Release Date: December 21,2016

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – ‘Twas a week before Christmas and up and down the street, the shop windows were decorated – oh, what a treat! With more entries than ever, Downtown Santa Barbara staff and committee members strolled along a rainy State Street to judge the Holiday Window Décor Contest. Here are the results, along with hearty congratulations to the winners:

2016 Award of Excellence: Kaleidoscope Flowers

Winter Wonderland Award: Anthropologie

Romantic Christmas Award: Chase Restaurant

Nostalgic Christmas Award: Spanish Garden Inn

Best Christmas Experience Award: 33 Jewels of El Paseo

Humorous Christmas Award: Old Kings Road

Honorable Mention: James Joyce, The Palace Grill

A window dedicated to the Downtown Santa Barbara Holiday Parade theme (“Holiday Under the Sea”) won the judges’ hearts at Kaleidoscope Flowers (1341 State), but the décor did not stop there! The entire small florist shop was filled with Christmas cheer: reindeer, elves, ornaments, and a plethora of under-the-sea holiday delights. What says “Winter” more than a pair of skates or a vintage wooden sled? Maybe a huge, handmade snowflake completely filling the window at Anthropologie (1123 State). With a floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree and a ceiling festooned with lights, the couples enjoying a rainy evening dinner at Chase Restaurant (1012 State) were in the perfect place for romance. When you decorate a Christmas tree with miniature versions of favorite books from your childhood, you’re flirting with nostalgia; when you feature a trio of paintings commemorating the holiday extravagantness of the tiny, beloved Members Only Barber Shop, you’re Spanish Garden Inn (915 Garden). Jewels, poinsettias, lights, snowflakes – as with the holiday itself, beauty is in the simplicity at 33 Jewels of El Paseo (814 State). And finally, oh what fun at Old Kings Road (532 ½ State), with their gift-wrapped motorcycle – priceless!

Downtown Santa Barbara wishes all of our members a wonderful holiday, here’s to a great 2017!
