World of Chaplin

State Street Ballet invites audiences into a world of imagination, humor, and cinematic wonder with Chaplin, a groundbreaking dance-theatre production coming to the Lobero Theatre on May 8 and 9, 2026. Blending expressive choreography with theatrical storytelling, Chaplin offers a visually rich and emotionally resonant journey into the life and legacy of one of the twentieth century’s most beloved icons.

Choreographed by Kevin Jenkins, William Soleau, and Edgar Zendejas, Chaplin follows a young girl as she
is swept into the whimsical world of Charlie Chaplin. Through this imaginative lens, audiences encounter
the humor and creative brilliance that defined Chaplin’s work. With a dynamic score featuring music by
various artists, the production seamlessly fuses dance, theatre, and cinematic inspiration into a truly
unforgettable experience.

“Chaplin is a beautiful collaboration between three widely respected choreographers, each telling a part
of his story through their own lens. This gives the ballet a unique richness of color and character.” says
Artistic Director Megan Philipp. “Their artistic collaboration creates the perfect journey to explore the
complexity of Charlie Chaplin’s complicated life and mind, with different voices seamlessly woven
together into an unforgettable story.”

“Chaplin speaks across time in a way that feels both nostalgic and urgently contemporary,” said Executive
Director Cecily MacDougall. “It’s deeply moving to see how his experiences, particularly during World
War II and in navigating the highs and lows of fame, still resonate today. For longtime admirers, it’s a
tribute; for younger audiences, it’s a discovery. The result is a work that is as joyful as it is compelling.”
