SlingShot is an art studio and gallery for artists with intellectual disabilities who want to create and sell art. The work is notable for its uninfluenced raw creativity. Each piece , whether it is a drawing, painting, sculpture or textile, tells a story reflecting the perspective of an artist with disabilities. The open studio environment is designed to encourage creative expression and the on-site gallery offers an exhibition space that fosters a supportive link to the Santa Barbara art community.
Our gallery is filled with unique contemporary art worthy of a second look.
SlingShot provides the potential for artistic growth, recognition and financial gain for the artists. Since 1980, Alpha Resource Center recognized the artistic talents of individuals with developmental disabilities and through our initiative, artists began showing to the public, competing in juried shows, and demonstrating their place in the contemporary art world. SlingShot currently supports 38 working artists. SlingShot is a project of Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara, a county wide 501©3 organization with a 60 year history of creating inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities.
Open to the public SlingShot Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 PM to 4:30 PM or by appointment. It is a great place to pick-up that special gift for someone.
